NOAA pulled this Chesapeake Bay nautical chart from 1840 out of its archives, part of its historical chart collection available online.
The images are in the public domaine so anyone can download them and print, but if you want an actual size in high quality NOAA suggests going to a print shop. And “we caution users against using these images for coastal and offshore navigation,” says NOAA. The Chesapeake Bay has changed a bit in the last 175 years. But it’s fun to see the difference on these charts.
